We'd like to make life easier for you and save you time looking for the trades person that you need for your repair. Below are a list of names that we have put together to help you. We have not tried all of them but someone, somewhere, recommended them.
If you know of someone who you felt was honest and gave good value and service, please contact us and we would be happy to add them to the list.
The List
Here is a handy list of who to call when you need help. A lot of the small stores are tucked away in passageways between buildings. These mini-malls are called "passage" (rhymes with massage) and rarely do people know or refer to a street or official name. Instead people will say the "passage next to Bank Discount" or "the passage where Ronbi is located".
Sometimes people will give you a location near a specific number on Herzl. Many businesses do not have numbers displayed on their storefronts so look for the next closest number. This method, although not highly accurate, is the way places are often identified in Rehovot.
On the left is a photo of the "passage" near Ronbi or someone may call it the "passage" across from Pizza Mati.

Banking/Changing Money in Rehovot
We were a bit surprised when we came to Israel at the high user fees at the banks. They charge for every slight service that you receive (they have a fee to count your cash when you make a deposit to your account above a certain amount). Our bank encourgaed us to use the money changers to switch our dollars into shekels then depoisit into our shekel account. Many people use money changers that are found on Herzl and the surrounding streets. They usually have a better rate and better hours as well. If you are wiring dollars from abroad you can use companies such as Cheerfully Changed to receive the wire then convert to shekels and deposit directly into your Israeli account.
Government Services
Rehovot has a lot of government services for Olim Chaddashim. There is a Misrad HaPnim, Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of Absorption (in nearby Ramle) as well as a conveniently located city hall.
Ulpan Office
Rehovot has an excellent Ulpan with classes on several levels. Because the population of Rehovot is not as large as Jerusalem or Tel Aviv, classes start when there are enough students enrolled.

What to See
Clore Garden of Science
On the grounds of the Weizmann Institute is a wonderful science park that will educate and entertain young and old. The Clore Garden of Science - the museum-without-walls is an outdoor museum with interactive science exhibits. It is best enjoyed by people over the age of five.
Ayalon Institute
Just north of the city, tucked behind the shiny buildings that make up the new Science Park, is an important piece of modern Israeli history that has been hidden beneath the ground for many years. In 1946 the Haganah opened a secret underground bullet factory that produced over 2 million bullets between 1946-1948. Call ahead for reservations. 08 940-6552.
The house of Abraham Dondikov, one of the founders of Rehovot, was built on the top of the hill called "Hirbat-Douran", at the beginning of Rehovot history. The restored Dondikov House operates as a gallery for temporary exhibitions of local artists. In the yard, there are few artifacts such as old Eucalyptus trees and part of the original garden wall. In the future, Dondikov House will act as a municipal museum, featuring the history of Rehovot.
